Creative Capital

February 5, 2013

To be eligible to apply, an artist must be:

  • A U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident
  • At least 25 years old
  • A working artist with at least five years of professional experience
  • Not a full-time student

This is not an ideal award for artists just beginning their creative practice, thus our requirement for five years experience in your field. In addition, we do not fund documentation or cataloguing of past work, nor do we fund projects whose main purpose is promotional or educational.

Creative Capital is interested in artists who:

  • Demonstrate bold, inventive and singular ideas in project form and content
  • Are at a catalytic moment in their creative practice and approach to their career
  • Are deeply engaged with and rigorously committed to their art form
  • Have potential for significant artistic and cultural impact
  • Understand the professional landscape of their field

Creative Capital supports innovative and adventurous artists across the country through funding, counsel and career development services. Our pioneering approach—inspired by venture-capital principles—helps artists working in all creative disciplines realize their visions and build sustainable practices. Creative Capital provides funding at benchmark moments for each project, including initial funding, support to build the artist’s personal and professional capacity, follow-up support for project production, funding for the project’s premiere, and support for the project’s expansion beyond its premiere presentation.

Creative Capital follows a seven-year grant cycle:
2017: Follow-up work with artists – no new awards
2018: Capstone Period (follow-up work with artists and evaluation of program)
Applications for Moving Image and Visual Arts projects accepted February 1-28
