Emmanuel College AIR

October 31, 2013

WHO:

Our residency in ceramics supports artists who are engaged in functional work or sculptural works. Mixed media artists can also apply, though their primary medium must be ceramics.

The Printmaking residency supports artists with demonstrated dedication and interest in printmaking by providing the essential time and facilities needed for the development of their work.

The photography department seeks to support an artist with dedication to photography, whether digital, film, or a combination of both. We provide the time and facilities for the resident to develop their skills further.

The social justice residency is meant to support artistic projects that directly engage subjects related to social justice, from the perspectives of both the effects of social injustice, such as hunger, poverty and discrimination, and efforts to rectify social injustice through actions of empowerment and self-determination. Artistic projects that actively engage communities outside of the art establishment are especially welcome.

WHAT:

The Emmanuel College Art Department offers an eight-week artists residency to four artists each summer from mid June to mid August. The residency supports a diverse group of artists, providing time and space for established and emerging artists to develop their work.

The Art Department specifically aims to award a residency to one individual from each of the four categories: ceramics, photography, printmaking and social justice. Fostering creative and artistic excellence, the residency also plays an important role in advancing the visual arts on the Emmanuel campus, providing an important educational program on contemporary art accessible to students, staff and faculty.

Emmanuel College awards a $1000 dollar stipend for supplies and up to an additional $1000 for travel reimbersment. Artists have access to studios from 7:00 AM. to 11:00 PM and are provided with on-campus living quarters and a small, shared kitchen. Artists are responsible for their meals.

WHEN:

Applications will be accepted from October 15, 2016 through February 1, 2017.
