Alaska Fiber Arts Residency

March 9, 2017

Open to Mid-career and Established US Artists with leadership and teaching skills. Seeks an artist exploring the relationships between wearable art and fashion.

Bunnell Street Arts Centers Artist in Residence Program presents an Alaska Fiber Arts residency. The residency aims to support designers working in fashion, costume design, sculpture and/or associated fields, in particular those whose practice is experimental and hard to define.

Sponsored by Homer Fiber Arts Collective, $2000 cash stipend for one month; $500 travel allowance; lodging in a private room with a shared kitchen and living area above the arts center; $500 materials budget

Through the course of this four week residency, the artist will produce at least three “wearable art” pieces for exhibition. The artist will conduct intensive collaborations with local participants, through a series of workshops or projects exploring the relationships between art and fashion. Topics may include: material possibilities of textile and fabric, issues of copy and appropriation, ideas of clothing as an extension of the body, notions of clothing as symbol & visual language and clothing as wearable, sculptural art.

Entry Deadline: April 30, 2017
